Federica Nannini - Boa Vista No Stress
When I said I was going to Boa Vista, many people assumed they knew the reason for my trip. The island is often associated, in the collective imagination, with a kind of superficial tourism, a reductive and stereotyped idea—especially when the traveler is a woman. But my journey had nothing to do with any of that.
Boa Vista welcomed me quietly and deeply. I discovered a place made of people even before landscapes: faces marked by the sun, genuine smiles, eyes capable of telling stories without words. I photographed the intense colors of the houses, the land, and the sea, but above all the human warmth that runs through the island and makes it come alive.
Here, time seems to slow down. Slowness is not the absence of movement, but a conscious choice—a way of inhabiting the present. “No stress” is not just a motto: it is a philosophy reflected in everyday gestures, in the rhythm of work, in the way people relate to one another.
This photographic project was born from the desire to portray a Boa Vista different from what is expected: far from prejudice, close to its essence. It is a visual narrative made of encounters, details, and suspended moments, speaking of humanity, simplicity, and attentiveness. A journey that, rather than taking me far away, taught me how to look more deeply.
